Mission Outreach

To believe is to care; to care is to do.

DISASTER RELIEF HYGIENE KITS

Hygiene Kits can mean the difference between sickness and health for the struggling victims of natural disasters, violence or poverty. The Outreach Committee and the Board of Christian Education have partnered to establish a collection for items needed for the Hygiene Kits as stipulated by Church World Service (listed below). The Church School children will deposit their donations in containers at the WORM Resource Center on the second floor, and all members are welcome to deposit their items/kits in the box located at the mailboxes on the main floor. The following is a list of items needed for each kit. You may purchase individual items or provide an entire, complete kit. Please note that it is essential that all kits are identical, so please be sure to provide exactly what is listed, in the quantities and sizes stated. In May, the Church School classes will assemble the kits which will be sent to Church World Service for distribution.

If making a kit, place all items in a one-gallon plastic bag with zipper closure

COMMUNITY SPECIAL NEEDS CAMPAIGN

March is one of two months in each year when your generosity helps replenish the local Food Bank shelves. With the economy floundering and loss of jobs on the rise, the need is greater than ever. Your donations can be placed on the table at the front of the sanctuary throughout the month of March. Bulk items are useful to those many singles or couples who also have needs. Following is a partial list of suggestions. Remember that nothing perishable can be used. Monetary gifts can be given to Jean Fasching, designated for the “Community Special Needs Fund”.

Beef stew
Jellies
Canned white potatoes
Peanut butter
Canned fruits
Bisquick
Canned meats
Fruit juices

Spaghetti sauce
Canned hash
Cereals
Pancake syrup
Saltines
Kidney beans
Baked beans
Tuna fish

MEAL MINISTRY

Calling all cooks. . . .would you enjoy preparing a meal for fellow church members who are new parents, ill, or recuperating from a hospital stay? The Outreach Committee is compiling a list of volunteer chefs who are willing to prepare and deliver a meal to members who would find comfort from this service. To volunteer or for more information and guidelines, contact Cheryl Dively at 367-4254 or email: divelyjl@embarqmail.com

CRISPUS ATTUCKS MEALS

March 6 & 7, 2010

The first two Outreach meals of 2010 will be on Saturday, March 6th and Sunday, March 7th. Help is needed both days to transport and serve the meals. We leave our church promptly at 4:15 PM to travel to Lancaster. If YOU can help serve or provide a dessert, please add your name to the sign-up sheet on the “Church Happenings” board in the hall.

MISSION TRIP 2010

We are still exploring different destinations such as Riverside UCC in NY City (Harlem) the Haitian Relief efforts, or work in Volusia County in Florida where there is still much roofing and dry walling to be done due to past hurricanes and tornadoes. That work would be done in conjunction with the UCC for people in lower economic levels who have exhausted all other means. The days for the Mission Trip will be sometime between July 6 through July 16. Leaving and returning dates will be determined.

Stay tuned for more details!

“AN EVENING AT HOME”

FEBRUARY 27 at 5:00 PM

The Outreach Committee invites all of Christ Church family to share our blessings with Elizabethtown residents who are less fortunate. From 5:00 to 7:30 PM on Saturday, February 27th, we are hosting a buffet dinner and musical entertainment in our Social Room for invited guests through the CAP and Food Bank programs. Outreach is asking for your cooking, serving, and musical talents to make this event a hearty, warm, and welcoming time for 40 to 50 people. Sign-up sheets for preparing a main dish, a side or salad, and/or dessert will be posted on the “Church Happenings” board. Also, there is a sign-up sheet for individuals or groups who would like to work with Jen Hinton to provide after dinner musical entertainment. We encourage all church members to engage in this special evening of food, fellowship, and song with our Elizabethtown community brothers and sisters.
