Church Happenings
PENN CENTRAL CONFERENCE ANNUAL MEETING
JUNE 11-13, 2010
Please see Pastor Carol if interested in attending.
Just a Reminder
Have you seen someone in the news? If you see an article featuring a church family member, please cut it out and place it in Tina Fanus’ mailbox.
Since the hospitals do not call the church office to inform them of a church member being admitted, please call the office and let a member of the staff know.
Check out the “Opportunities” board for events, services, and some job opportunities. Census takers are needed—good short-term employment!
The church office is always trying to keep information on members up-to-date. If your phone number has changed or you are using your cell phone as your home number, please call the church office and let one of the staff know of the change.

ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING
March 14th, 2010
SHARING RESOURCES, CHANGING LIVES
Do you love me?...Feed my Sheep.
John 21:15-17
On March 14th, your gifts to One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) will offer hope and well-being to people in this country and around the world. The OGHS offering is the refugee, relief and development fund of the United Church of Christ, administered by Wider Church Ministries, Global Sharing of Resources.
By giving to OGHS, you join with communities in more than eighty countries struggling to overcome poverty, illiteracy, illness, and the dangers of wars and disasters. Your gifts provide sources of clean water and food, education and health care, small business micro-credit, emergency relief and resettlement for refugees and displaced persons. Your gifts also support domestic and international ministries for disaster preparedness and response.
At the time of writing this article, OGHS funds are already flowing to mission partners in Haiti to support their initial earthquake emergency response. Reports of on-line and congregational offerings specially designated “OGHS-Haitian Relief” from across the UCC appears to be very strong, indicating a generous outpouring of support. As damage assessments are made and plans for relief, recovery and rehabilitation are developed, additional funds will be shared.
The UCC responds immediately at times of natural disasters, but its commitment to recovery and rebuilding is long-term, long after the media spotlight has turned elsewhere.
When making your gift to OGHS, you actively participate in tending to God’s flock throughout the world. Live your love for the Good Shepherd. Feed Jesus’ sheep generously.
LILY ORDERS
March 7 - March 21, 2010
Order forms for lilies will be available for three Sundays at each of the sanctuary entrances, beginning March 7 and continuing through March 21, 2010. The cost is $6.50. Place money and completed forms in the envelopes provided, then place the envelopes in the baskets at the entrances. Checks should be made out to Christ Church UCC and marked “lilies”. NOTE: If ordering more than one lily, use a separate form for each, but all may be paid for with one check and placed in one envelope.
VITALITY COMMITTEE
The Vitality Committee is entering a concluding phase following a six month process that began in September. We offer each congregational member two different ways to be involved.
The first opportunity for you to provide feedback of your own thoughts, hopes, and dreams for Christ Church will be through a written survey that will be mailed to you in January. The second opportunity for you to provide information is through conversation groups or through a personal one-on-one visitation to your home. If you have missed the first round of conversation groups, there is still time on January 10, following the 10:30 AM church service, and January 12, at 6:30 PM.
Please make the time to fill out your own written survey (or go online to fill it out) and involve yourself in a conversation group. The hope and the objective is that all of this information, will allow our church to focus and direct our energy on what we feel is important to the mission of Christ Church at this time and just as importantly in the years ahead.
We will begin to process all of this information in March and April. Our plan is to present our committee’s thoughts, suggestions, and recommendations, based on your feedback, to the Consistory in May or June of 2010.
Thank you to everyone for your input and thoughts that have made this vital process a key to our church as we proceed forward into the future.
GROCERY GIFT CARDS
Cards are available for Darrenkamp’s, Giant, Groff’s Meats, and Weis Markets in various denominations. You don’t need to use the entire amount of the card at one time, either, so if it’s difficult for you to remember to purchase them, why not try larger denominations that last a little while longer? You can get as many as you wish – and, they may be purchased Sunday mornings or anytime during the week. Just call ahead if you’ll be attending a meeting in the evening. We can arrange to have them waiting for you.
Remember that grocery cards make wonderful gifts and can even help with supplying the prescriptions to keep you feeling well and the gasoline for all your running around!
Approximately $3,795.00 has been raised so far—a nice help in meeting our budgetary needs. Thank you for your support!
