CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN CONVERSATION

How is God still speaking...currently and contemporarily.

Every Sunday, the members of the Contemporary Christian Conversation Sunday School Class dive into the issues of the day and discuss how they intersect with our faith and how that impacts our lives.

For the last two years, the class has been using a curriculum called “The Wired Word,” which takes a ripped-from-the-headlines approach to Sunday School. Each Thursday, the class’ teacher receives an e-mail from “The Wired Word” with that Sunday’s lesson based on something that has been in the news that week. Each lesson is infused with questions that we as 21st Century Christians are asking ourselves, and it seeks to explore and address those questions and answers via appropriate Scripture.

So far this year, lessons have included in-depth discussions about Haiti and the response to the earthquake, a minor league baseball prospect who gave up a promising Major League baseball career to become a priest and a family who downsized from a large home and gave $800,000 to charity.

The lessons challenge us each week and strengthen our faith as we seek God in a modern world.

We meet each week in the basement Social Room. Please feel free to join us. If you would like to read some of the lessons that the class has used, please e-mail Jeff McCloud at teamccloud@gmail.com.

WE WELCOME COLLEGE STUDENTS!

LIFESEARCH 2009/10

The LifeSearch Church School class invites you to join them in the library for lively conversation and fellowship. This class uses the UCC curriculum “Seasons of the Spirit” and occasionally supplements the curriculum with educational series from the Lancaster Theological Seminary. This fall LifeSearch for Adults will be learning about the wisdom found in the parables through a series called, The Parables, by Dr. Greg Carey. Please consider joining the class for faith building, new friendships, and caffeinated coffee! While the LifeSearch class does not profess to have all the answers, they do have fun “searching” for the answers to the many questions of life and faith. This class is an intergenerational class, so all adults, young and young at heart, are welcome to attend. Whenever your schedule permits, there is always a seat for you in LifeSearch!

Featured Workshop!
Creation Station (Art Room)

This station moves beyond crafts to art appreciation and the use of art as a learning tool. The Art Room is located in the lower level of the Education Building. It is over flowing with art supplies, a sink and counter, tables, stools, and plenty of room to display the art that our Church School participants will produce. Please check out this exciting room and if you’re feeling creative, pull up a stool and have some FUN!

Sr. High Class - Inspiration All Around

“Be the change you wish to see in the world.” Gandhi         “Prayer...your chance for a meeting...with God!” - Marianne Williamson

These are two of several quotes the Sr. High class is using as inspiration for understanding how we can become closer to God.  The class has focused on how we experience God within ourselves, how that affects our relationships with others, and then the many ways God is calling us to be active in this world. Different activities during Advent helped to focus on how Jesus came to "Be the change" for God in our world.  Last fall, the class also took part in the Vitality discussions, sharing with each other what aspects of church life were important and meaningful to them, giving suggestions for future experiences, and contributing information to be compiled with the congregation's responses.  The next few months will be spent preparing the Youth Sunday service, which will be held on Sunday, April 18, 2010.
