CHRISTMAS IN NOVEMBER

November 2, 2008

9:00 & 10:30 Services

On Sunday, November 2, at both worship services, we will  be celebrating our annual Christmas In November event.  The Outreach Committee has again chosen the Water Street Mission in Lancaster as the organization we will help facilitate as they provide transitional housing to eight families and  approximately fifty women and  thirty children.  Along with a place to live, the Mission provides a nurturing environment and helpful information about job opportunities and educational facilities.  WE help with our gifts of personal and family needs.

At both services on November 2, Mardester Thomas will be our guest speaker.  Ms. Thomas is from the Development   Department at Water Street Mission and a counselor for Women’s Ministry.  She will share information about the  extensive ministries offered at Water Street Mission and how our gifts will affect the women and children housed there.

The last day to pick up your gift bags will be on October 26. Fill the bag with the indicated gift, tag it with the ribbon provided, and return the bag to be presented during our   Christmas In November services on November 2.

As always, our Outreach projects can not succeed without the help of such a giving and caring congregation.  Once again, we are asking you to provide the gifts and participate in the celebration of our Christmas In November effort.

God is always moving us forward!

CLOTHING BANK COLLECTION

Saturday, November 8, is the next date for our church’s participation in the local clothing bank.  Volunteers are needed to help load and transport clothing  to the Senior Center on Friday evening, and sort clothing Saturday, November 8, from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM at the Senior Center. Please call Susan Van Skiver at 367-9944, if you would like to help.

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING

NOVEMBER 16, 2008

10:00 AM

Following our one service of worship, we will hold our Annual Congregational Meeting.  In the polity of the United Church of Christ, each local congregation practices its own form of worship, education, and mission.  In order for this system to work adequately, it requires the active participation of all members.  Therefore we need your presence  on Sunday, November 16, to take part in this congregational meeting.  Once again we’ve had a busy year.  We celebrate a new staff member, John Lemke, who has been  working very hard trying to get to know all of you.  We also celebrate the completion of a very successful renovation project and new Church School program.

Upon completion of the meeting, everyone is invited to the basement Social Room to fellowship and enjoy a luncheon prepared by our Fellowship Committee, then to tour  the new Church School workshops and classrooms.

LUNCHEON MENU:  Chicken Corn Soup, Ham Salad Sandwiches,

Chips, Beverages & Desserts

Holiday Bake & Sub Sale

DECEMBER 12, 2008

9:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Our Lancaster County UCC Homes Auxiliary will again sponsor a Holiday Bake and Sub Sale at Ephrata Manor, December 12, 2008, from 9:00 AM-2:00 PM.

The members of Christ Church have always turned on their ovens and provided an  array of wonderful baked items for this fundraiser.  (Sugar-free are especially needed.)

Proceeds from our fund raisers and your generous contributions through the year    provide our six facilities with those special extras that are not included in the budget.  During the past year, our own Lancaster County Auxiliary has helped make possible purchases of new TV’s, Wii games, outdoor garden boxes, outdoor furniture, exercise equipment, and more.  Thank you for your generosity!

Please bring your baked items to church on Thursday, December 11, by 11:00 AM.

If you would like to become more involved in our Auxiliary, or just come along to help with this project, please call Sandy Gahres at 367-2861.

GOD IS STILL GIVING . . .

HOW CAN I HELP?

Over the past month, you have received information about how “God is Still Giving” in Christ Church as part of the 2008 Stewardship Campaign.  More importantly, we have gone on to answer the larger question, “How Can I Help?”, because God isn’t calling us to be passive participants in our Christian walk.

Whether our passion is Caring for God’s Earth through our professional vocation,  or we are Caring for God’s People by going on Christ Church’s annual Mission Trip, or we are Caring for God’s Church by looking after the physical church, we need to take an active role to ensure that we are fulfilling our responsibilities.

God is also expecting us to be an active participant through our tithes and offerings.  Many of you have responded to the question “How Can I Help?, by returning your pledge cards.  For that, the Stewardship Committee thanks you.

If you have not returned your pledge card, we ask that you please send it to the church or place it in an offering plate by November 2.

Remember: God Is Still Giving, and it’s never too late to help!

HEALING TOUCH CLINIC AT CHRIST CHURCH

Saturday, November 15th, from 9:00 AM—12:00 noon, Christ Church members and friends are welcome to come to church to have Healing Touch treatments.  Costs are free or a $5.00 donation to the Heifer Project.  These sessions are wonderful for stress relief, arthritic joints, aches and pains, relaxation, or clearing one’s head before a test.  All ages are welcome!

If you would like more information, check out the Healing Touch website at        www.healingtouchprogram.com or more information is available at the church.

LAUNCHING THE ARK

Our campaign to fill an ARK for HEIFER INTERNATIONAL has been so successful that we are now at the $3,400 mark, with over two months yet to go.

Even now, our Church School children are filling individual banks toward a goal of $60, the amount it takes to purchase a “Flock of Hope”.  Our “Name-The-Heifer”    Contest, added an additional $111, plus gave us some fun.  Also, contributions continue to come in from the congregation.  In November, there will be an opportunity to bid for an ARK done in needlework.  To complete the ARK, we are still in need of donkeys, oxen, camels, and guinea pigs.

Plans are now being made for our SEND-OFF-THE-ARK CELEBRATION, on Sunday, December 28, during our one worship service at 10:00 AM.  Plan now to be in church that morning to add your joy and thanks to God for this wonderful achievement!

A Thanksgiving Blessing

May an abundance of gratitude burst forth as you reflect upon what you have received.

May thanksgiving overflow in your heart, and often be proclaimed in your prayer.

May you gather around the table of your heart the ardent faithfulness, kindness, and goodness of each person who is true to you.

May the harvest of your good actions bring forth plentiful fruit each day.

May you discover a cache of hidden wisdom among the people and events that have brought you distress andsorrow.

May your basket of blessings surprise you with its rich diversity of gifts and its opportunities for growth.

May all that nourishes and resources your life bring you daily satisfaction and renewed hope.

May you slow your hurried pace of life so you can be aware of, and enjoy, what you too easily take for granted.

May you always be open, willing, and ready to share your blessings with others.

May you never forget our wonderful   God who loves you lavishly and  unconditionally
