CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

2008/09 Church School Theme

and Fall Outreach!

“We’re Under Construction:

Be Patient, God’s not finished with us YET!”

Change is a good thing!  Our Church School has certainly undergone some major change!  Change bounds in Scripture.  Probably the most familiar is the account of Saul’s conversion to Paul as recorded in Acts Chapter 9:

As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.  He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”  “Who are you, Lord? “ Saul asked.  “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.  Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”    Acts 9:3-6

We are pleased to offer our new Rotation Model of learning!  Not only has the   structure of our classrooms changed, but the rooms themselves have transformed into fantastic and fun workshop areas.  On the lower level, we have a fully equipped Art Room (Creation Station) and a new Computer Lab (God’s Word.com), with 8 computer stations.  Also, we will be utilizing the new kitchen for our Cooking Workshop (Soul Food Café) and our Science Lab (Discovery Lab).

On the upper level of the Education Building, you are invited to the “Gathering Place”, which has the Story Time Tent and Temple and a gathering area for music.  On the other side of the Nursery is a new location for the Pre-School classroom, for children ages 3 and 4, and the newly created “Media Room” (Holy Word Productions).  We are excited about the new face of Christian Education at Christ Church and hope that you will be too.  Help is always needed for many different roles.  Please see Pastor Fred or any member of the Board of Christian Education  to see where you might be able to lend a hand.

Our Outreach Project for the fall of 2008 will be helping to fill the Heifer Project’s “Ark of Hope”, along with the Outreach Committee.  Each Church School             participant will be given an “Ark Bank” to fill with their loose change and or parts of their weekly allowance money.  Parents, please encourage your child to help those in need by sharing some of their own blessings!  With everyone’s help, we hope to be able to give the gift of a FULL ARK at Christmas..

Welcome to a new year of Christian Education at Christ Church.

Being under construction means positive changes throughout!

LIFESEARCH 2008/09

The coffee and the topics will be HOT in the Library

every Sunday morning beginning at 9:00 AM!

The Lifesearch Class welcomes adults of all ages to begin this new Church School season with a provocative adult education series called "Render Unto Caesar:  Faith, Politics, and the Presidential Election."  Created by Lancaster Theological Seminary professor Lee Barrett, this non-partisan study explores the role of religious assumptions in the political platforms of presidential candidates.  Facilitated by Jo Hopwood and Ann Dinsmore, the class will address the theological foundations of political approaches to economics, health care, war and peace, foreign relations, immigration, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.  According to Barrett, "The goal of this study is not to advocate a particular political position or candidate, but to invite participants to explore the relationship between Christian faith and political policies    in order to inform our decisions as civic-minded Christians."

“CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN CONVERSATION”

There is a discussion group for young adults who are approximately 19 to 35 years of age.  Discussions will focus on faith, love, how religion is relevant in life, silence, meditation, worship, and more.  The discussions will be starting September 7, from 9:00-10:00 AM in the Social Room.  They will be facilitated by Kendra Lauer, Jeff McCloud, and John Marsh.  If you are interested or have any questions, call Kendra at 367-1986, Jeff at 361-8317, or John at 367-4999.
